Ray Kleinlein is Elliott Assistant Professor of Fine Arts. He holds a Masters degree (1998) in Painting and Art History from Ohio University.
Ray’s paintings are in hundreds of corporate and private collections throughout the world and in several museum collections. He exhibits regularly in one-man and group shows at the Paul Thiebaud Gallery in San Francisco, and Anthony Burnelli Fine Arts in Binghamton, New York, as well as in art fairs such as Art Chicago and Art Miami. In 2025, his paintings were featured in a group show that included work by Andy Warhol, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, and Claudio Bravo.
Ray's work has been chosen for juried shows by prominent figures, including artists David Reed and William Bailey, Hirshhorn Gallery Director James Demetrion, and Peter Schjeldahl, art critic for The New Yorker. He’s won numerous competitions and awards, including two Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowships and two Virginia Center for the Creative Arts Fellowships. A book about his work, , was published in 2022.
